Project Gender ("we", "us", "our") respects your privacy and is committed to protecting the personal information you share with us when you visit projectgender.co.nz or purchase merchandise from our online store ("the Site").
This policy explains what personal information we collect, why we collect it, how we use and store it, and your rights under the Privacy Act 2020 (NZ). It applies to anyone who browses the Site or places an order with us.
We collect personal information you provide directly, including:
Name, email address, phone number
Billing and shipping address
Order details (products, sizes, quantities)
Payment information (processed by our third-party payment provider — we do not store full card details)
Correspondence you send us (emails, contact form submissions)
We may also automatically collect:
IP address, browser type, device information
Pages visited and time spent on the Site, via cookies and analytics tools (see Section 7)
3. Why we collect it
We collect and use your personal information to:
Process, pack, and fulfil your orders
Communicate with you about your order (confirmations, shipping updates, issues)
Respond to enquiries and provide customer support
Meet our legal and accounting obligations (e.g. tax records)
Improve the Site and our product range
Send you marketing communications, where you have opted in (you can unsubscribe at any time)
We only collect information reasonably necessary for these purposes, in line with the Information Privacy Principles (IPPs) under the Privacy Act 2020.
4. Who we share it with
We do not sell your personal information. We share it only where necessary to run our business, including with:
Printful — our print-on-demand fulfilment partner. When you place an order, we pass on your name, delivery address, and order details to Printful so they can print and ship your item directly to you. Printful is a separate business and acts on our instructions to fulfil your order.
Payment processor (e.g. Squarespace Payments/Stripe or similar) — to securely process your payment. We do not see or store your full card details.
Squarespace — our website and store platform host, which processes order and customer data as part of running the Site.
Email/marketing tools, if you've opted in to receive updates from us.
Government agencies or authorities, where required by law.
Overseas disclosure
Printful operates fulfilment facilities in several countries, and your order may be printed and shipped from outside New Zealand depending on stock and location. This means your personal information (name, delivery address, order details) may be held or processed overseas. Where this happens, we take reasonable steps to ensure your information is protected to a standard comparable to the Privacy Act 2020, including relying on Printful's and Squarespace's own privacy and security commitments. By placing an order, you acknowledge this overseas disclosure is necessary for us to fulfil it.
5. How we store and protect your information
We store personal information using secure, reputable third-party platforms (Squarespace, our payment processor, and Printful) rather than on our own servers. We take reasonable steps to protect the information we hold from loss, misuse, unauthorised access, or disclosure. No online system is 100% secure, but we work to keep your information safe.
6. How long we keep it
We keep order and customer information for as long as reasonably necessary to fulfil the purpose it was collected for, including meeting our tax and accounting record-keeping obligations (generally seven years under NZ tax law). We delete or anonymise information we no longer need.
7. Cookies and analytics
The Site uses cookies (via Squarespace and any connected analytics tools) to remember your cart, understand how visitors use the Site, and improve your experience. You can disable cookies in your browser settings, though some parts of the Site (like checkout) may not work properly without them.
8. Your rights
Under the Privacy Act 2020, you have the right to:
Ask us what personal information we hold about you
Ask us to correct any information that is wrong or out of date
Ask us to explain why we hold or use certain information
To make a request, email kiaora@projectgender.co.nz. We'll respond within the timeframes required by law (generally within a couple of days).
If you believe we have mishandled your personal information and we haven't resolved your concern, you can complain to the Office of the Privacy Commissioner at privacy.org.nz.
9. Children's privacy
The Site is not directed at children, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children without appropriate consent.
10. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time to reflect changes in our practices or the law. The "Last updated" date at the top shows when it was last revised. Continued use of the Site after changes means you accept the updated policy.
